The Importance of Being Earnest
May 10 - 19 at 7:30pm
May 20 at 2pm

The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde’s classic high-farce comedy written in 1895, is ‘A Trivial Comedy for Serious People’. It is a story where the main protagonists maintain fictitious personae, allowing them to escape from burdensome social and personal obligations, whilst finding unexpected love. Reflecting, and at the same time undermining and trivializing, the social conventions of late Victorian British society – with themes that resonate down the ages – Wilde’s story is full of wit, intricate wordplay and handbags; showing the playwright at the height of his brilliant career.

Bobbi Lane
Bobbi's musical roots go deep. Her father, a municipal court judge in Bridgton, Maine, played trumpet and cornet in a  Dixieland band. She says she can remember her first gig—at age five.

Saturday, May 26
George Larakis
When George was a high school student in Massachusetts he went from bummer to strummer. Laid up for several months with a broken leg from a motorcycle accident, he let time pass by teaching himself guitar.

Saturday, June 2
Alan Cook
Alan, who teaches music at the University of Maine in Machias, comes from a family of nine, all of whom played instruments. Family gatherings, he says, were a hoot. Alan himself started guitar at age five.

Saturday, June 9
Juliane Gardner and Chris Poulin
They call their group, which frequently includes guest artists, "Shades of Blue." Juliane says her father's love of jazz was her first major influence. As a small child she was associated with Castine's Cold Comfort Productions, and by age nine was featured in vocal solos.

Driving, boating or walking into Downtown Ellsworth is like setting your foot down on earth. This is the place that hasn't changed much, that still has parks and paths and neighborhoods where people live and work. It's hard to define, that feeling of discovering the real Maine this close to the coast, the downtown that has all the things you really want, is active all year, and is as friendly to locals as it is to visitors.
