Live Music at the Grand

- Jude Johnstone - Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 7:30pm $15

With a history of songwriting that encompasses the best of Americana’s stars (Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Bette Midler, Trisha Yearwood, Stevie Nicks) Johnstone’s awards include a BMI for Yearwood’s #1 song “The Woman Before Me.”

- Chris Smither – Friday, August 6, 2010 at 7:30pm - $25

NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO: [Smither] taps his foot to keep the rhythm, much like the late blues legend John Lee Hooker. His finger-picked guitar lines are sleek, unhurried and insistent. And then there’s the voice –equal parts gravel and molasses, Smither’s singing sounds like a distillation of the folk and blues heroes he grew up listening to in New Orleans.

- Bela Fleck w/ Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain - Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 8:00pm - $60

Three masterful genre-benders and the leading virtuosos on their respective instruments, Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer move with ease among the worlds of classical, bluegrass and world music. In the 2009-10 season, they join together for the first time in trio concerts of original music.

Woodland in bloom

Thursday, July 29, 5:00pm reception
Friday, July 30 – Saturday, July 31, 10:00am – 5:00pm

Woodlawn and the Ellsworth Garden Club are pleased to announce Woodlawn in Bloom, A Standard Flower Show . The show is aimed at educating the public on flowers, floral design, and gardening.

Woodlawn in Bloom will consist of three divisions: Design, Horticulture, and Special Exhibits.  The Design Division, open to interested designers, will feature twenty floral arrangements placed throughout the interior of the Black House. The Horticulture Division, open to the public, will feature 40 classes presented in a large tent.  The Special Exhibits Division will feature three exhibits focused on the history of plants and gardening.

Woodlawn in Bloom draws on the Ellsworth Garden Club’s long history of staging award winning flower shows beginning in 1934.  After World War II the Club’s flower shows grew considerably in size and quality repeatedly winning state and national awards for excellence not only for programs, floral design and educational exhibits but also for its horticultural displays of hundreds of flowers and vegetables.  Held virtually every year until the 1980s, most of these shows were staged in Ellsworth’s City Hall.  This past winter, the Club approached Woodlawn about reviving the show as a joint project.
